With average sales of 1.7million tons per year, Spain contributes to half of the world’s olive oil production, 60% of which is for export markets. 2.5 million hectares are home to 350 million olive trees as well as some of the most diverse and productive olive oil groves in the world, making Spain the largest olive growing area globally. Olive trees first start to fruit their treasure in 5-10 years, age being the key factor to the olive quantity produced, not the quality. Trees reaching maturity of a 100 years start seeing a decline in their production of olives. Olive oil is widely recognized as the world’s healthiest oil’s. In fact, people tend to live longer and healthier lives in regions where olive oil is a staple part of their diet.

Picual
